iPhone Poker
Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011Is there’s an app for that? Because there’s an app for everything it seems. Want to find out the pot odds you have in a hand? There’s an app for that. Want to find out implied odds? There’s an app for that. Want to find out if you are running above or below expectation? There’s an app for that. Want to find out the ICM of a sit ‘n go you are playing it? There’s an app for that. Want to find out the schedule for this year’s World Series of Poker? There’s an app for that. Want to run a tournament clock? There’s an app for that. Want to determine how many examples are necessary to prove your point? Yes, there’s an app for that and yes, that was more than necessary. However, if you just want to play iPhone Poker, until recently there wasn’t an app for that.
That’s right, you could find out incredible specific and precise information about poker, do all sorts of things poker related, even organize and run a poker tournament but as far as playing iPhone poker on an Iphone? Not so easy, at least, not playing an authentic real feeling real money game. But now, yes, there’s even an app for that… kind of.
It’s more a solution. Turns out there are a few programs to run your favorite poker site on an iPhone or an iPad. All involve using something that is relatively common and that’s setting up a VNC. A Virtual Network Connection can connect your mobile device to your home computer. Yes, you have to set up your home computer to allow it, but doing so will enable you to take your online poker session on the go. Suddenly iPhone poker is a reality and you can be free from your desktop. Now you can play; in a bus, at the Department of Motor Vehicles, at the Dentist’s, in the Movies, or if you are evil, at a funeral, in short anywhere.
This works a little bit like the popular slingbox device. A slingbox allows you to watch any cable show that you receive at your house on your computer anywhere in the world. Basically, your computer is reaching across the internet to access your TV. And you get to watch what you’d watch at home on the road. Only now instead of your laptop jumping into TV, your iPhone or iPad is allowing you to play iPhone poker through your laptop or home computer.
You will need to download and utilize a program that allows navigating around your computer and desktop from afar. A simple Google search will turn up some apps that work best for your phone and your computer. Suddenly, you’ll not only have iPhone poker but you’ll also be able to do anything you want to do on your computer on your iPhone or iPad.
One of the sites you can access is bwin which devised an app for mobile phones and probably would have made one specifically for Apple’s iPhones or iPads had apple allowed it. Maybe Apple plans on iPoker one day. However, if you want iPhone poker in the here and now, you should start researching popular VNCs. Apple allows those apps, and can’t stop you from doing whatever you want on your desktop. If you want to use the VNC solely to play poker by all means have at it.
If you want to access your spreadsheets or any secondary poker related programs you’ll be able to do that too. While the steps to solving the problem of playing iPhone poker aren’t as easy as downloading one app, VNCs still allow you to do what you want to do and that’s play iPhone poker—so yes, there’s an app for that… kind of.
